There’s been much abuzz at Gamescon this year, however perhaps one of the biggest announcements in the PC gaming world is the first expansion to Diablo 3, titled “Reaper of Souls.” Teasers were dropped by the registration of IP under the same name, as well as a teaser website (used to be at http://us.battle.net/d3/en/reaper-of-souls/ but has since been converted to the full site to advertise it).
Since the conference, a trailer has been released outlining Tyrael’s descent into the depths of the underworld to secure Diablo’s blackstone holding the remnants of his soul, when he and the Horadrim are suddenly accosted my Malthael, leaving it up to the Nephelem to recover and protect the soulstone. Will we see a resurgence of Diablo? We don’t know, although most likely.

A date itself has not been announced as of yet, but details of the expansion outline new enemies, new gear, a new level cap, and a new character class, the Crusader (which appears to be a reworking of the classic Paladin of Diablo 2). Word has not been announced as to how this expansion will affect PS3 and Xbox users that purchase a console copy, but a quick DLC would make sense to me in the age of cloud servers and streaming data.
